Domestic Partnership Agreements
In the state of Washington, couples that cohabitate together for a period of time may be designated by a court as intimate partners. If a court determines that you are in an intimate partnership relationship as a result of your cohabitation, the property you have acquired during the time of the cohabitation may be subject to division.
Washington's cohabitation or intimate partnership relationship laws apply to same sex couples and opposite sex couples. However, before property division may occur in a same sex couple case, the law may require that one of the parties is age 62 or older. The law concerning cohabitation is constantly changing. Therefore, it is important to consider the possibility of property division regardless of your age.
Protect Your Rights - Consult an Attorney
